Data Luminescence is building a better world, using cutting edge research and intelligent software design to counter the legacy of inefficient data management. The continued use of inefficient software to store, retrieve and analyse the world's data needlessly wastes more energy every day, in an already loosely regulated market.
The growth of the digital economy and issues such as data sovereignty are now completely dominated and largely compromised by the lack of availability and cheap supply of clean energy.
With previously mothballed nuclear and coal fired power stations coming back online in western economies, it should be obvious that an energy crisis is looming. To compound matters, we now learn that orders for jet turbines running on aviation fuel have outstripped supply, with orders booked up until 2028-2030, solely for use in powering new data centers.
The world has to wake up and make some stark choices. We can either continue to feed this insatiable demand with unsustainable power, or we can take action today and make the software that the world runs on more efficient.
Wirth's law has long dictated that advances in software lag well behind advances in hardware, often for reasons of abstraction, and inefficient programming models. Our mission is to more closely match the available performance per watt made available by modern hardware and return that energy dividend back to the grid.
Whilst CFO's will love the impact to the bottom line of their operational budgets, developers and end customers will reap the additional benefits of increased performance, which can be up to two orders of magnitude higher than those acheivable using existing data management technologies.
Whilst we have successfully acheived this goal, we are now in the process of rolling out this world beating UK/US patented research into industry and will need your help to Crowdfund the next phase of our development.
Our upcoming InMem0r8 (pronounced in-mem-orate) product line is a revolution in simplicity that re-imagines how the fundamentals of modern computing such as transactional data writing, indexing and reading should be structured in the modern age of advanced processors and faster memory.
Rather than relying on the architectural patterns that have been repeatedly used since the 1970's, our revolutionary approach builds everything from the memory allocator up, to merge storage and memory into a unified and ACID compliant transactional framework.
We are on the cusp of a future in which developers will no longer have to agonize over which backend framework to use and whether it will scale efficiently. In the future, applications will simply InMem0r8 their data instead.
Our latest Ultra product will significantly accelerate the rise of back end as a service (BaaS) deployments, giving developers increased freedom to concentrate solely on an applications functionality, without the burdensome considerations of security and scaling.
We're currently emerging from stealth, which means means that we're still pre-revenue and still building the delivery mechanisms that will allow for the general availability, distribution and support of the InMem0r8 product suite.
Our latest advances have all come from basic R&D and for the last 16 months have all been director funded, whilst we've finalised our new InMem0r8 Ultra product. As ever, software always take longer to deliver than expected, so we now need your help to bring this revolutionary new approach out of research and into industry.
UK innovation funding is haphazard, even at the best of times, but the last 18 months have been particularly stormy, seeing not just ourselves, but a large number of other UK based R&D efforts struggling to raise the capital they need to make the succesful transition to industry.
As a result, we're asking for your help in filling our latest funding gap, which was for a fully costed £50k project that would have allowed us to successfully exit the R&D phase and move towards full commercialisation of the technology by Q2 2026. If we can push beyond £50k then that would obviously open an additional world of possibilities, but just like our software, we run lean and believe we can acheive our stated goals on the current target amount, in order to cover development, office, and hosting costs.
Other than the importance and excitement of joining this revolution from the very beginning, we can offer, regular and exciting updates on progress, early access to our product website, and most importantly priority access to future equity rounds.
For reasons relating to VAT we can't offer any of the products thmeselves in return for donation, but all three products will be available in the early drafts of the new product site, so there will be a way to get early sight of the latest releases before general availability.
We plan to reach general availability by Q2 2026, at which point the software will be downloadable from our upcoming InMem0r8 product website.
The planned development activity for this next phase of our journey will involve porting the product website template over to an InMem0r8 Ultra implementation, in order to create a comprehensive exposition of our own technology. This will provide both front and backend services, within a single framework.
The template, once ported, will allow developers to download a free 2GB evaluation, or sign up to a $5 a month support subsription, which will then give access to more capable 4GB versions of the product, as well as a fully supported online user community, with managed hosting options provided by third party hyperscalers.
Developers or corporations requiring a licence for data volumes between 4GB and 256TB will need a separately negotiated contract.
The product web site will also host all the required support documentation and a range of useful live demos and examples across a range of different architectural platforms.
The build model for the software itself will include support for white labelling opportunities and franchise rights in specific sectors that will be offered through future business development activity. The scaling of future sales operations will make use of all of these options, as well as additional channel partnerships and most importantly, 'all you can eat' deals with hyperscalers, in order to make good on our mission to reduce global energy use.
Our market research has shown that there are currently 4.5M developers using a single BaaS (Backend as a service) platform at present, which our InMem0r8 Ultra product already closely matches in terms of functionality, so even if we chose to only concentrate sales and marketing efforts on this one specific niche sector, there would obviously be an existing audience ready for more efficient software at a cheaper price point.
The product itself is an embeddable library that can be incorporated directly into other application processes. This can be done at 3 levels of abstraction, depending on a developers particular needs.
Atomics is our most simple abstraction is a complete toolkit of available extensions to the computers memory allocator that can be purposed for use by any C/C++ developers looking to squeeze the highest amount of perfomance possible out of their applications
Core is our second lvel of abstraction and is the simplest database implementation its possible to construct using the basic memory allocation toolkit. This level of abstraction is perfect for IoT style implementations in industries as diverse as Space, Defense and industrial sensor networks.
Ultra is our latest development and is perhaps the most significant for the world at large, representing a revolutionary new approach to web based services by embedding the Core within the web server process itself, augmented by an additional security framework and support for user defined functions, that have access to both the current web and database sessions.
All three products are extremely low latency and designed specifically to exploit the efficiency offered by modern hardware. Additional stand out features include, but are not limited to:
Efficiency. By closely matching and exploiting the underlying capabilities of modern hardware, as well as reducing the length of the overall processing pipeline, average efficiencies of 60% are acheivable in comparison to existing architectures.
Performance. Typical response times in microseconds giving two orders of magnitude performance improvement in comparison to existing technologies.
A multi-level military grade security system easily capable of resisting multiple attacks by bad actors and/or nation-states. Tiered security levels such as ‘Whole Database Encryption’ through to ‘Row-by-row Encryption’, with the option of secure nested and encrypted sub-databases.
Scalability. A complete user management system capable of supporting up to 2 billion users, with multi-level row-by-row-based security reducing potential for data leaks by preventing unauthorised users from accessing the data.
Support for secure user functions. User code can be built right into the heart of the system, providing outstanding ultra-high-performance for systems such as quantitive trading systems.
Direct in-process access to the database. Access via function calls, or out-of-process access via HTML and/or JavaScript via any web browser.
Support for uploading multiple websites into a database Makes website publication fully transactional, enabling ‘live’ changes to be made without any downtime.
Multi-platform Support for ARM/x86 platforms, 32/64 bit, Linux/Windows, everything from a ‘Raspberry Pi’ through to high-end servers.
Tiny 1 MB memory footprint for low-end applications, meaning that ‘mini-database’ abstractions can be quickly, but securely passed via e-mail or similar mechanisms (i.e., such as health records).
Simplicity. A simple 12-call interface (depending on product version). Just 3 calls to create, open and close databases, 2 calls to manage transactions, 3 calls for indexing/searching, and 3 calls to append, read, write and delete data. This simplicity massively reduces the manpower required to create and maintain applications and/or websites.
Hyper-efficient indexing and set operations, with exceptional support for wildcard searches. Both static and realtime data analysis over extremely large datasets.
